If You Find The Head and the Heart Too Lively, Check Out The Past Impending's Self-Titled EP

The Past Impending
The Past Impending EP
Out now, self-released
If The Head and the Heart gets your blood pumping too fast, The Past Impending might be just the band you've been waiting to discover. The three-piece plays a sparse, subdued brand of folk music; most songs on the group's self-titled EP feature fingerpicked acoustic guitar, brushed drums, mournful cello, and frontman EJ Christopher's gruff, yearning vocals. The songs here are allowed to meander and have some pretty moments, but they never get very far.
And about that cello: a little goes a long way. It plays nearly through the entirety of every song, distracting from Christopher's vocals rather than providing counterpoint to them. While strings can be a nice touch, they make these already mellow songs even more lethargic.
Selections from the EP are streaming on the band's Soundcloud, and you can listen to highlight "Come Inside" below.
