Going to See Prince at the Tacoma Dome Tonight? Send Us Your Cell Phone Pictures!

Categories: Concert Photos

Something like this would be ideal.
Calling all Prince fans: are you heading to the Tacoma Dome to see the Purple One live in concert tonight? I am and will be sharing all the details first thing tomorrow morning, but we've hit a roadblock in terms of comprehensive coverage. Live Nation's just informed us that no photographers are being approved to shoot the show. Can't say I'm surprised, since we're talking about someone who's rumored to include a "no eye contact" clause in his concert contracts; the guy is royalty, after all, and deserves some special treatment. But because a concert review is only half as fun without photos, we're asking Tacoma Dome attendees to send us your own personal pictures that we can use here on Reverb.

If you happen to take any cell phone photos tonight, send them my my way--and I'm not limiting these to photos of Prince onstage. Send me photos of you and your friends in the parking lot or the weird people sitting next to you or the stage decor. And if you happen to get any decent shots of Prince, definitely send them my way as well. My email address is ethompson@seattleweekly.com; can't wait to see all your pictures!

Photo & Perspective: Visqueen's Farewell at the Neptune Was a Going-Away Party For Us All

Visqueen played its final show at the Neptune on Saturday, November 26.

What's more rock and roll than an beautiful woman with a smoky-strong voice, wailing on the guitar, leading a super-tight band? The only thing I can think of? Doing it all in front of a packed house, while pregnant.

The Long Winters, Thursday, Showbox at the Market: I've seen them so many times I've lost count, in at least six or seven states with six or seven different lineups. If I could pick a best show, this one would be up there near the top. Sean Nelson's guest vocals? Mind-blowing. John & Sean's back-and-forth sarcastic banter? Classic. A backing band made of incredibly talented and adorable kids? Made my cheeks hurt from smiling all night.

Photo & Perspective: Jens Lekman Draws the Best Crowd Ever at Columbia City Theater

Jens Lekman
Sunday, October 1
Columbia City Theater

By Laura Musselman

For the first time ever, I left a show thinking, "Wow. That was the best crowd ever."

The room was full of faithful fans from Seattle, Portland, Eugene, even Idaho. Jens Lekman delivered. He always does. He's always a little bit different than the last time you saw him. Sometimes he's solo, other times he has an all-female backing band dressed in matching outfits. This time it was Jens with just a couple guitars, a sampler, and his drummer Addison (who also gave great harmonies).

Columbia City Theater is the perfect venue to see a sold-out show: at capacity there's still breathing / dancing room, the sound is great, and the stage is tall enough that you can see from anywhere in the room (however, as a 5'5" photographer who lives in the front row, the height can lead to a lot of up-the-nose-shots if you aren't careful).

Photo & Commentary: Horny Women Still Love Bush, and Ate Up Gavin Rossdale, Last Night at the Neptune

Bush played the Neptune on Thursday, September 15.

Never thought I would say this at almost 30 years old: Last night I was nearly crushed to death in a Bush mosh pit by my horny screaming female peers. Additionally, I can't believe Gavin Rossdale actually leaned into the swarm of women and let them TOUCH HIS FACE AND HAIR. The whole experience was weird. It was a big-lights/big frontman stadium-cock-rock show squished into the Neptune.

Photos & Perspective: PJ20 Was a Rain-Soaked Birthday Party of the Highest Caliber

PJ 20 went down Sept. 3 and 4 at Alpine Valley Amphitheater in Wisconsin.
This post is part of a series in which longtime Seattle music photographer Laura Musselman provides her thoughts on what it was like to be at, and shoot, a show.

By Laura Musselman

PJ20 was not so much a music festival as a birthday party for Pearl Jam with 12 opening bands. Everyone, including the people who live in the area, seemed confused as to why it was being held in Wisconsin at Alpine Valley. As far as I could tell it was for a few reasons: 1. Alpine Valley holds 37,000 people, the second-largest-capacity theater in the United States. 2. It is centrally located in the middle of the country and generally has predictably good weather over Labor Day weekend. 3. Pearl Jam really likes playing there.

I know a lot of Seattleites are a little bent that it didn't happen here, but it was a destination for everyone who showed up. I saw a myriad of license plates from Oregon to Pennsylvania, heard tons of different accents from around the world, and the amount of Pearl Jam T-shirts at Milwaukee's Mitchell International airport on Monday was insane. You should have seen the Chili's airport bar.

Warped Tour 2011 Photo Diary

dirtyboys.jpg
Seeing The Warped Tour at the Gorge is sensory overload. Not only are there thousands of people milling about, most in some state of undress, but also multiple music stages, dozens of vendors, band booths, skate ramps, pamphleteers, and on and on. Stand in just the right place and you can hear three screamo bands yelling at you at the same time, all at equal volume. And then there was the sun, the brutal sun, beating down on pasty white skin marked with colorful tattoos like an angry ball of gas intent on memorializing the occasion with a thousand sunburns.

My day started off with a set from Columbus, Ohio's Attack Attack!, a growly metalcore band that seemed a little out of place in the harsh light of day.

Pollens.
Artist Home, the fine folks behind Doe Bay Fest and SlackFest, have been spending their summer putting on a series of free beach concerts on the final Sunday of June, July, and August. Last night's show was at Ballard's Golden Gardens, and featured performances from Ravenna Woods and Pollens; Reverb's favorite gal-about-town Laura Musselman was there and took some lovely, summery photos of the events.

Check out more images after the jump.
