Ride Tall and Dutch...
.
I enjoy going for a bike ride, but lately I've been bored riding my twelve year old Rock Hopper mountain bike. It's not comfortable, it's not stylish and it's not Dutch! While cruising the Burke- Gilman Trail through Fre-lard last weekend, I stumbled upon Dutch Bike Seattle. Ex-bike messenger Dave Schmidt's newfound company has been a dream come true. Dave spent some time in Holland a few summers ago riding these amazing bikes and wanted to share his experience with the Pacific Northwest . Imported from Holland, these well engineered bikes had kept the same style from the 1930's but sparing no detail with added LED front and back lights, roller brakes, 27" wheels, 8 gears, a locking rear wheel and even a leather seat. Beyond the traditional city bike, Dutch Bike Seattle also carries Cargo Bikes (Bakfiets) that can transport up to 150 lbs of weight. Think- a couple of kids or groceries for the week! I took every bike for a test drive-twice. Was it the song "Born to Be Wild" ringing in my ears or knowing that the bike that I favored the most was referred to, as the "Preacher Bike" is still unclear. I'm happy that there's a little bit of Holland cycling through Ballard.
