Bob Dylan, Prince, Husker Du, Atmosphere, the Replacements. Chances are, some of your favorite musicians from at least one era hail from (currently) frosty Minneapolis. And Minneapolis-based author, music critic, and City Pages contributor Jim Walsh is someone who knows about all of them, but most notably the notorious Replacements. The Fader said of his recent oral history The Replacements: All Over but the Shouting: "Walsh is a longtime conspirator (his band, Laughing Stock played with them in their early �80s days and he delivered a eulogy at guitarist Bob Stinson�s funeral in 1995), and he nakedly approaches his subjects with the thesis that they were the greatest band of their generation. Still, he makes no apologies for the often cruddy way they treated their fans, their friends, and each other." This reading from the clear-eyed yet sentimental look at one of the �80s best bands, by an insightful dude who literally grew up with them, should sufficiently prime music nerds for this April�s annual Pop Conference at Experience Music Project.
