The Daily Wire: The Lectures Grim

Art and death, then and now

As seasonal affective disorder reaches its annual peak, the Henry Art Gallery has chosen to display Dawn Cernys uplifting exhibit "Were all going to die (except for you)." Arent you lucky? Actually, the exhibit looks to be a fascinating pairing of drawings by Cerny and pieces she selected from the Henrys permanent collection. In addition to creating these artistic parallels, Cernys work addresses American attitudes towards death. For further morbid discussion, the museum is fortunate tonight to have Sandra Kroupa, book arts and rare book curator, to speak on late-19th-century mourning rituals and customs. In conjunction with the exhibit, Kroupa will give us the dos and donts of death during industrialization. Henry Art Gallery, 4100 15th Ave. N.E., 543-2280, www.henryart.org. Free. 7 p.m. BRENT ARONOWITZ
