My To Do List, For Tonight (It's First Thursday Y'All) and This Weekend
Posted March 6, 2008 at 5:15 pm by Adriana Grant
Opening Tonight:
Jason Wood (image above)
Old Growth and Used Memories
A promising new solo show by the man who crafted a self-portrait in pencils. Wood uses his namesake material to explore our human interaction with nature, though the specific medium is often unexpected. His most recent landscape was composed of ping-pong paddles. Gallery4Culture.
Alden Mason: Burpee Garden Revisited
A peek at the Northwest artist's best-known work, dating from 1973. Lush palettes and a generous hand give these works in oil a visceral feel. Greg Kucera Gallery; recent work at Foster White Gallery.
A few still-new shows, not opening tonight but open, and worth checking out:
Message In A Bottle the last show at this space for James Harris Gallery
before they move to bigger digs.
And I'm curious about this one, nearly new at Lawrimore.
Ending tomorrow: a group show at the newest gallery on Capitol Hill, Grey Gallery, with work by Allison Manch, Alice Tippet, and Dawn Cerny, among others.
And way across town (not open tonight) Susan Dory at Winston Wachter
Saturday night in Georgetown: Georgetown Art Attack! A wandering open house from the little neighborhood that could. Only in its second month. Georgetown, various locations. 6-9 p.m.
And on Sunday (rescheduled from last week) Vaughn Bell, Featured Artist at Pratt, gives a talk:
March 9, 6:30 p.m. Pratt Fine Arts Center
