STIFF Proposition

Today marks the kick-off of Seattle's True Independent Film Festival, or STIFF. This renegade festival features the best in independent filmmaking from Seattle and beyond. I pimp it partly out of self-interest—Haymaker & Sally, the buddy cop comedy I made with Buzzer Beater filmmaker Jason Reid, will be playing this afternoon and next Wednesday night—but also because it features a whole host of exciting movies at venues like the Jewel Box Theater and the Central Cinema (both of which will allow you to enjoy a drink while you take in the cinematic goodness).

Trailers and info after the break. Click on the film names for more info, including showtimes and online ticket sales

Here's the festival trailer that the folks at STIFF put together:

Here's the trailer for Haymaker & Sally, the buddy cop bonanza in which the mustaches are real and the shootouts so realistic that the Seattle Police Department saw fit to send seven cars and a chopper to quell the uprising. Warning, audio NSFW:

Here's a trailer for Frank & Cindy, G.J. Echternkamp's documentary about his mother and 1980s one-hit wonder stepfather. This American Life's Ira Glass said, "It’s rare to see a documentary that’s so raw and funny and infuriating too."

Here's a trailer for Wiener Takes All: A Dogumentary, which looks hilarious and is currently receiving the most audience buzz on the STIFF site:

There are many, many other cool movies showing. Check them out.
