South Seattle Buzz

Scott Horrell, owner of the beloved Nine Pound Hammer in Georgetown, recently took over Kelly's in South Park (8617 14th Ave. S.). The awesome rumors that I've heard have included a V.I.P Airstream to be parked in the back and/or turning the place into a steak house. True and mostly true. Scott says, "We built a gigantic patio in the back, about three times bigger than the bar. We're going to attach an Airstream trailer to it, and I'm building long and skinny benches for the inside." Colorful clam-back metal chairs and a redone wooden interior will try to keep the Western spirit of the space, which has seen several incarnations as far back as 1918, when it was a pre-prohibition tavern. About the menu he adds, "It'll be a full menu, American food, but I want a place that's all about the meat." (ed note: Yesss!) Look for the place to open as Loretta's in late summer.

In other non-news...Georgetown is a small neighborhood and news spreads fast. But it pays to fact check, and I sadly just squashed a rumor. Many birdies were saying that chef Matt Dillon of Sitka & Spruce was leasing a spot in Georgetown. Well he is--but to live, not cook. (At least not for us. Well, maybe you can bribe him with a house warming gift...) Sorry kids, but welcome to the neighborhood, Matt! Enjoy The Magnificent Mile of lunch that is South Michigan and Airport Way. And may I recommend the breakfast burritos at the Georgetown Truck Stop?
