Miro

New wine bars may be a dime a dozen these days, but tea shops aren't so far behind. Maybe it is tea's time.
Perhaps it's not picture-perfect yet (the grand opening isn't for a few weeks still), but Miro, the new tea bar next to Volterra, already seems to be settling into Old Ballard. Miro strikes a balance between a chic “tea is the new coffee” shop and a traditional tea house. The interior is decidedly eco-modern, combining lots of dark, sharp angles with soft, earthy accoutrements like varnished tree stumps for tables and benches, and a bamboo wall behind the loose-leaf tea display.
When it's up and running at full speed, Miro will offer about 250 loose-leaf teas, as well as a menu of drinks made (some shaken, even) with tea - hence the term "tea bar," as opposed to "tea house." I liked my Green Mojito, an iced (and thankfully not sweet) mixture of green tea, lime juice, and muddled mint.
They'll also have food, some of it tea-inspired - yesterday I had a "Miro berry" crepe, loaded with a mixed berry compote made with fragrant Rose Ambrosia tea and topped with a dollop of ricotta cream.
Just don't wait for the tea to enter your bloodstream to get your Zen on - the drink and the crepe set me back almost $13.

Zen: Calm. Quiet. Be with what is.
$13: A lot for iced tea and a crepe, in my book.
Tea usually helps me with the Zen, but I needed it before tea to cough up the $13.

I recently visited Miro Tea and thought the place was fantastic (it\'s about time that Seattle had a real tea place). I didn\'t think the prices were bad at all (I had a \"Lemon Pops\" crepe that only cost $4; also got a yummy \"London Fog\" tea latte that cost $3.50 for 16 ounces!), and the staff was very friendly/knowledgeable. Plus they have free wi-fi, for crying out loud. What more could you ask for??
