Hurley gives Triangle Lounge a lift

If you’ve been to Fremont’s Triangle Lounge recently and thought things look a little spiffed up, you’d be right: Thomas Hurley, the force behind now-famous Hurley’s in Portland (and the chef making waves at Seattle's Coupage), is giving the Triangle a little face lift. It’s a bit less dingy, with new lights, new paint, and true to Hurley’s family (which has been fighting fires for 158 years), there’s a firehouse motif, with a tribute to New York firefighters on one wall.

Hurley doesn’t want to strip the Triangle of its roots as a Fremont classic, but he does want to make it more of a culinary destination. With what, you ask, another burger over $20? Yes, actually. But no fois gras here, and this one feeds two: The Triangle’s new 11 oz. burger ($26) is made from Kobe beef short ribs, served on a pretzel roll with red onion kimchi, iceberg lettuce, and truffle mayo, with not one, but two Stellas.

Find a date. And stay tuned. Hurley's not done with Seattle.

Triangle Lounge, 3507 Fremont Pl. N., 632-0880. Open 3 p.m. – 2 a.m. daily. FREMONT
