Georgetown Finally Has Its Own (Little) Grocery Store

Located at the corner of Carleton Avenue South and South Warsaw Street, this tiny mom and pop shop is owned and operated by Georgetown residents Allen Phillips and Ladele Sines. Several blocks west of Michigan and Corson, the mini grocery store is plum smack in a residential area, just south of Oxbow Park, where the Hat & Boots are.
Beer, eggs, milk, bacon: check, check, check, check. They're looking into adding some Washington red wine to their shelves (they asked what kind I wanted: here's one idea). And one guy was asking for his favorite energy drink when I stopped by last night.
They've got a few veggies, a preponderance of Field Roast (someone had put Italian sausage on the list before I got there, though I'd suggested this local brand), Essential breads, and a smattering of snobby snacks, including tubular Brie for your round cracker topping ease, and those savory Spanish olive oil crisp bread crackers.
Right next to the cash register there's a grocery wish list going, for customers to write down their requests. The couple is still stocking the shelves, and are looking for neighborhood input as to what to fill them with.
This charming little shop has been open only since Monday, and today (Saturday, November 8) offers a free tasting of their goods from 2-4 p.m.
Carleton Avenue Grocery
6601 Carleton Ave. S., GEORGETOWN (phone number not available)
According to the Georgetown-Seattle list serve, they're open til 8 p.m. on weeknights; weekend hours are still being determined.

Boy. Is the Weekly this much of a Whites-only paper? For years there has been a neighborhood grocery--oh, but it's "Japanese" grocery. Doesn't count, I guess. Basic goods and great sushi to boot and tons of Asian ingredients and rice-based wines to boot. How un-American. I want the new venture to succeed as I want all of Georgetown to succeed, but get off the "whites-only" horse. This is a very diverse neighborhood and it's part of what makes it Seattle's most intriguing neighborhood.

I live in Georgetown, and I love Maruta, the little Japanese grocery. But I was thrilled to hear of a "white" grocery store also. A lot of what I eat and cook isn't available at Maruta.

Sorry to be nit-picky, but they are stocking Grand Central breads, not Essential.

Guess you have to be anti-white to be chic anymore. Now who is racist?
