I'm feeling a little bittersweet this morning, in our ten-steps-forward-two-steps-back country, or perhaps it's just what happens when you combine a sinus infection with cheap sparkling wine (the Capitol Hill Safeway was almost sold out of the good stuff). So this week's food news roundup is brief:

Original Gin: Older Styles Find Their Way Into Cocktails (SF Gate): Now that the martini era has segued into the age of brown-liquor cocktails, three almost-forgotten types of gin — old Tom, genever, and aged gin — are being resuscitated.
