Root Table Brings Asian Fusion and Eco-Friendliness Together
When the storefront next door to his Enlighten home-décor shop became available, Kalan Intawong knew he had to jump on it. "It's always been a dream of mine to open a restaurant," he says. Come mid-January, Root Table (2213 N.W. Market St.) will begin serving Asian-fusion cuisine with no shortage of interesting flavor combinations. "I designed the menu," Intawong tells us, "but I also have about five chefs who help me out." They come from China, Japan, Indonesia, and America, resulting in an eclectic menu containing dishes like the Menage à Thai--three curries that come with a choice of meat and are served with flatbread--and Double-Fisted Duck, which is marinated in dark beer and Chinese wine. The plates will be small but the prices shouldn't exceed $10. Not surprisingly, most of the furniture, made from recycled wood, reflects the Asian-inspired eco-friendly design aesthetic Intawong has created at Enlighten. -- Suzie Rugh
