Matt's in the Market: Drinks With a View

matts_setup.jpg
My one splurge for Seattle Beer Week last week was the joint Pike Brewing and Trade Route Brewing beer dinner at Matt's in the Market. Matt's owner Dan Bugge and chef Chester Gerl gave the dinner fantastic pacing and the courses were sized perfectly, with each dish paired with both a Pike and Trade Route beer. For added warm fuzziness, one of craft brewing's biggest and earliest champions, Charles Finkel of Pike, shared the night with Trade Route co-owner Chris Castillo, who was marking this as his brewery's first beer dinner.

I won't go on about what I ate that's not on the menu, but you can go to Matt's anytime and eat one of my favorite courses of the night: piquillo peppers filled with salt cod and potato and served with a spring green oil. I highly recommend it seated on the south end of the bar, facing the sound with a French 75 laced with Strega. (*Note to self: Next time I am at a 5-course, 10 beer dinner, do not power up with one of those aforementioned cocktails first.)
