Fourth of July at Cal Anderson Park

Bratislava_New_Year_Fireworks.jpg
Looking for something to do on the Fourth before the big Lake Union fireworks display commences? Head up the hill for the seventh annual Capitol Hill Independence Day Community Picnic at Cal Anderson Park. The festivities include live performances from bands like Lady A and the Baby Blues Funk Band, Katherine Hepburn's Voice, Picoso, and the kid-friendly Recess Monkey—plus an all-park parade, a pie-eating contest, patriotic tie-dyeing, a pet/human lookalike contest, and urban family portraits (emphasizing that all types of families will be welcome and celebrated). A root-beer garden will be open with Molly Moon's ice cream for floats, and other food will be available from Wandering Wieners, Caffe Vita, and Via Tribunali. Plus, everyone gets free cotton candy! Afterward, there'll still be time to decide if you want to brave the Gas Works crowds, or if heading home and watching it on TV will suffice. Free. Noon-5 p.m.
