Marie Osmond-Endorsed Menopause Relief Drink: By Women, For Women...and 35-Year-Old Male Alt-Weekly Editors, Apparently

Categories: I Ate This

Did you know October is National Menopause Month? I didn't--not until I was sent a bottle of fruity GEM from Sammamish-based Beveragette Ventures. GEM is designed to keep menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, irritability, insomnia, and mood swings in check. It is endorsed by Marie Osmond, and is being touted as "by women for women."

So why, of all the folks at Seattle Weekly HQ, would Beveragette send a product so clearly designed for women of a certain age to a 35-year-old male? Search me, but then, I'm not sure why I'm the only one around here who gets sent home waxing kits (which I swiftly pitch to Hobart, who friggin' loves 'em).

My initial impulse was to find a menopausal co-worker to hand my bottle of GEM to. But then I noticed GEM is supposed to help with night sweats, and as my new bride can attest, those I get, especially two nights after drinking a bit too much. Last night was such a night (the Alki Tavern's taco bar is tough to turn down for the alcoholically-inclined water taxi passenger), so in order to stave off the pursuant sweats, I downed the bottle of GEM--which looks more like a shampoo container than something with edible liquid inside--myself.

Does it work? Is GEM poised to cross over to the schlongier sex? I'll have to get back to you on that one. What I can tell you is it doesn't taste bad (citrusy) and has a ton of Vitamin E, so it can't hurt, right? Anyhoo, don't take it from me, take it from Marie:
