Bacathlon, Your New Favorite Sport & Other Achievements in Bacon

the_bacathlon.jpg
I just started biathlon training last week. It came to me in a dream. Now, I doubt that dream. Justin Esch and Dave Lefkow, the duo behind Bacon Salt, and their company, J&D Foods, will host the first ever Bacathlon next Thursday, November 19th at the Heavens Nightclub in Pioneer Square.

The highlight of the night will be world-class competitive eater Erik "The Red" Denmark, who will attempt the world record for bacon eating, and local luminaries and celebs will compete in feats of bacon-themed strength. "Imagine the events of the decathlon, add bacon eating and contestants dressed in giant foam bacon suits," says Justin. "We're keeping some of the events a surprise, even from the celebs," adds Dave." THere will be a relay of sorts and a bacon throw. The Bacathlon will raise money for Ashley's Team, an organization that lends assistance to kids with cancer and their families. (All proceeds will go to the charity.) The company will also debut three new products at the event: Baconpop (bacon flavored popcorn), BaconRanch (bacon flavored ranch), and Mmmvelopes (bacon flavored and bacon-shaped envelopes). The last is a special stroke of mad genius and may just encourage an uptake in letter writing. All three products will be available for attendees to sample. As with other products from the company, none of these items actually contain bacon but rather are bacon flavored, bringing bacon to all.

(Bacathlon, Thursday, November 19th, 9:00 p.m. to midnight, Heavens Nightclub, 172 S. Washington St., $10 at the door)
