Chamber on My Mind: Wednesday's Best Earshot, Steak & Chamber at the Sorrento

Chamber music just doesn't give us enough to write about, except this week. As part of the Earshot Jazz Festival, Seattle musician and composer Wayne Horvitz's These Hills of Glory, a chamber music piece, will be played by on the violin, piano, clarinet and flute at the Nordstrom Recital Hall, 7:00 p.m. (tickets HERE). Call what Horvitz does experimental chamber music or jazz-chamber fusion, but I'm no aficionado. If you want to go out close to the venue but don't want to hang in a restaurant bar, Fonte (1323 First Ave.) has a fantastic selection of wines by the glass, local draft beer and even Champagne service, open until 9:00 p.m. during the week and 10:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Saturday at the Sorrento brings a different kind of chamber music, a stylistic smack down of sorts. Loch Lomond, cellist Lori Goldston and Spectratone will lead a music filled evening across disciplines, chamber and rock. City Arts editor Mark Baumgarten and music historian Zach Carstensen will host the evening's conversation beginning at 7:30 p.m. (tickets HERE). Would it be gauche to request "Devil Went Down to Georgia?" The only thing to do before , glut yourself as a bon vivant of old. The Sorrento recently started serving $20-$24 PRIME @#$%ing RIB dinners every Saturday in The Hunt Club. Dinner includes a iceberg wedge salad and baked potato. Reservations are highly recommended, and make sure to let the host know you are interested in the special as they ran out last week (343-6156).
