Monday Morning Announcements: Opened, Open, Opening and Marination Wins GMA Challenge

marinationwin.jpg
Kamala Saxton and Roz Edison's Marination Mobile won Good Morning America Weekend's Best Food Cart Challenge this weekend, represented by its spicy pork taco. They beat out carts from New York City, Portland, OR and a Virginia. The show visited the truck's regular Fremont stop last Wednesday, and fans could vote for their favorite cart this past Saturday.

The winner was announced that evening and Marination threw an impromptu party Sunday morning in Seward Park for GMA's live east coast feed. Employee of Marination Emily Resling said, "We had tons of zesty folks who showed up at 4:00 a.m. from all corners of the city, iincluding Bellevue, to support us on live TV. The truck was dishing out spam & egg musubi, and spicy pork tacos. Dani Cone of Fuel brought coffee for everyone! A good time was had by all." You can catch the GMA weekend segment HERE.

Despite the economy, the Seattle restaurant scene is producing new restaurants faster than a den of horny rabbits. Last week we told you about Avila (1711 N. 45th St.), which starts serving lunch tomorrow to sandwich-deprived Wallingford, but we forgot to mention the restaurant serves Sunday brunch--in particular a bang up Monte Cristo with housemade country ham. Tomorrow, Serafina officially opens Cicchetti (2043 Easlake Ave. E.), a little bar off the bigger restaurant's back courtyard that will focus little Venetian style snacks and craft cocktails. (We'll have a first look tomorrow.) The Scarlet Tree (N.E. 65th St. & 8th Ave. N.E.), which closed after a fire four years ago, has announced it will open in two weeks. The new building is a block away from the old breakfast and Bottomfeeder favorite.
