Openings & Closings: New Year's Eve Marks Farewell to Mitchelli Trattoria and Atlas Foods, Boom Noodle in the Works

Last March, it had been reported that Pioneer Square's Trattoria Mitchelli (84 Yesler Way) was shutting its doors for good due to the economic downturn. Nearly a year later, it appears that owner "Papa" Danny Mitchelli (nee Mitchell) has finally set a date to lock up and retire the 32-year-old business. According to the Seattle Times, New Year's Eve will mark the last day and food and drinks will be discounted until the inventory is emptied--just be sure to stock up the wallet as it will be a cash-only deal.

Another closure on New Year's Eve will be Atlas Foods (2675 NE Village Lane) located in the busy University Village mall. Owners Peter Levy (who operates the 5 Spot, Hi-Life and Endolyne Joe's) and Jeremy Hardy (Coastal Kitchen and Mioposto) told the Seattle Times that being located in a shopping center was not a good fit for their business. Boom Noodle (sister restaurant to Blue C Sushi) plans to take over the space following the Atlas Foods auction on January 6th.

Acorn Eatery & Bar (9041 Holman Rd) has confirmed on their website that the restuarant is closed and up for sale. MyBallard blog recieved emails from concerned customers who were uncertain about the fate of the establishment.

In Capitol Hill news, a new sports bar that will not only be serving brews but also espresso plans to emerge around Union and 11th Ave. Laura Olson from Po Dog decribed that the bar will also come equipped with shuffle board tables along with 14 televisions.
