Seattle's Top Five Waterfront Outdoor Eating/Drinking Spots
When the sun finally gets its mojo back, Seattleites strip off their woolen caps, neighborhoodies and the socks from under the sandals, and begin the prowl for the best places to feed a mean collective Vitamin D deficiency. The theory is that rock bottom D-levels are best replenished by soaking up the rays at a comfortable outdoor venue - preferably, a waterfront one (because water reflects sunlight, right?) Add some tasty eats and cold booze, and you're bound to heed the siren call of a perfect summer day in Seattle.![]()
A sorry siren, of sorts.
Mind you, Seattle's siren calls are only heard by those who venture to her waters. Not near the water or overlooking the water - but ON the water. So, to help you heed this beautiful call, we bring you Seattle's Top Five Waterfront Outdoor Eating/Drinking Spots.
5. Agua Verde Cafe & Paddle Club, 1303 NE Boat Street, 206-545-8570
Agua Verde doesn't boast the greatest view but it more than makes up for that in character. This bright jumble of rooms is perched over Portage Bay and is known for its locally-sourced, Baja-influenced food (the secret to the creamy chile mashed potatoes is, shhh...cream cheese) and loved for its downstairs kayak/canoe rentals. Eat on the patio overlooking the paddle club, after you've worked up a thirst kayaking through the maze of the Arboretum, or order from the takeout window and enjoy your meal as a picnic in the adjoining waterfront park. Another great idea is to meet up with the Seattle Weekly team for our August 11 Happy Hour for Hope fundraiser - drink some tequila, say hi, raise money for charity, and enjoy Agua Verde's all-around charm.
4. Waterfront Seafood Grill, Pier 70, 2801 Alaskan Way, 206-956-9171![]()
Convenient for walking from downtown, the Waterfront Seafood Grill sits atop Pier 70 with outdoor tables overlooking everything from the waterfront to West Seattle and beyond. Pretty much limited to well-reviewed seafood and steak dishes (with vegetarian options available on request) the menu is one of the more formal on this list - with entrees ranging from $28 to $69 - and an expectation of some semblance of dress. The view and the service make this a great place to celebrate a special occasion (such as the sun coming out) or to make an impression on someone special. Even if you dress to impress, you can still show enough skin to soak in that Vitamin D.
