In an Act of Disloyalty, Gwilym Davies Gives London to Seattle
In April of 2009, the World Barista Championships marked its 10 year celebration in Atlanta, GA, and bestowed the honorable title of World Champion on a British barista named Gwilym Davies. I was not there, and my internet connection refuses to load the video of the event, but here is why I still think of Gwilym Davies as brilliant:![]()
In August of 2010, while enjoying an iced Americano (chocolate & cayenne) at Equal Exchange Espresso, I spotted a sign reading, Be Disloyal!
"Well, that's odd," I thought, and picked up one of the little orange cards by it to see what the fuss was about.
The Seattle area coffee shops on the other side of this card are honored to follow his leadership by example.
I turned the card over, and saw listed:
01. Aster Coffee Lounge
02. Equal Exchange Espresso
03. Fonte Coffee Roasters
04. Herkimer Coffee
05. Makeda Coffee
06. Neptune Coffee
07. Porchlight
08. Tougo Coffee Co.
09. Trabant Coffee & Chai
10. Urban Coffee Lounge
If you're interested in trying some new coffee shops, being daring and branching out from your settled routine, this is a perfect place to start. It's a ready-made, guided tour of several Seattle highlights, just for you. Any one of these locations should be able to supply you with a Disloyalty Card, and all of them have agreed to the following: Purchase one beverage at each location, and you receive a free beverage from whichever location you choose. ...So just in case the adventure isn't enough reward on its own, you're even guaranteed an extra reward for being adventurous.
