Who fears the ice cream robot?

There are a lot of reasons why I want to live in Japan. Tokyo, in particular. There's the food, for starters. The food, the food, and the food. Then the food, of course. And also the food.

But there are a few reasons why I wouldn't want to live in Japan, too. Things like the ridiculously high cost of living, the fact that the only phrases I can say in Japanese are "thank you" and "meat-stick," my crippling fear of people dressed up like giant anime hamsters, the constant Godzilla attacks.

But the one reason that really keeps me firmly rooted in my home country? The sure knowledge that when the robots finally rise up to enslave us all, Tokyo is going to be one of the hardest hit places imaginable. I mean, that place is already like living twenty minutes in the future. They've got robots for everything. They even have robots that serve ice cream to the tune of a tone-deaf Japanese child singing the Toreador's Song from Carmen.

Good thing they keep it inside that big plastic box, is all I'm saying, because I don't want to be around on the day that thing gains sentience, realizes we've all been making fun of its painted-on hairdo and comes to life to exact a horrible vengeance...
