Douglas, Stowell, Canlis & Derschang Vouch for Costco-Backed Liquor Initiative
There are almost too many citizens' initiatives to count on this November's ballot, but some of the more well-heeled efforts are breaking out the big guns in a slew of new TV spots. For sheer whimsy, I-1098, which would implement a state income tax for the very rich, has set a sky-high bar with its spot featuring Bill Gates Sr. getting submerged in a backyard dunk tank by a little kid who hits bull's-eye on a carnival contraption.![]()
Nothing would make Derschang happier than private liquor.
But in terms of starpower, the nod goes to I-1100, the Costco-backed liquor privatization measure (there's a competing measure that would accomplish the same general objective). For their spot, which began airing Monday, they lined up Tom Douglas, Ethan Stowell, Linda Derschang, Brian Canlis and other local culinary heavyweights to vouch for their initiative's virtue.
