West Seattle Could Lose the City's Best Burgers, Columbia City Bids Goodbye to Roy's BBQ, & More

Roy's BBQ says goodbye to Columbia City on January 9.

The biggest buzz is in West Seattle, where SeaMart at 16th Southwest Holden Street is in judicial foreclosure. Whether any of the businesses based in the business emerge unscathed remains to be seen. JoJo's Fine Espresso plans to stay open only "as long as supplies last" and Seattle's best burger place Zippy's might soon be rendered homeless.

In Columbia City, beloved Roy's BBQ at 4903 1/2 Rainier Avenue South serves its last pulled pork sandwich on Saturday, January 9. The owner cites the economy and "personal" reasons."

Fremont's TosT at 513 North 36th Street closes at the end of this year. The bar has been sold to new owners and undergoes remodeling soon.

Madrona-based Dulces Latin Bistro at 1430 34th Avenue is being replaced by a pizzeria at the end of January. Dulces' owners cite the economy as the main reason for closure, but plan to relocate to Capitol Hill.

Lastly, an opening (!) in the University District: the owner of Vashon Island's beloved watering hole The Hardware Store launched a restaurant at 5001 25th Avenue Northeast. 50 North offers comfort food like fried chicken and burgers, much like what they're known for across the water.
