Pustari's Pizza As Bad as the Mariner Bullpen Near Which It Sits

Categories: I Ate This

When Voracious contributor Leslie Kelly sampled Bill Pustari's Apizza pie from Safeco Field's new Pen food court on media day, she loved it. "Bill Pustari, a seasoned veteran of the storied New Haven, Conn., pizza scene, has launched his first West Coast outpost of Modern Apizza at The Safe. The pies are absolutely terrific, built on crusts with character and topped with local ingredients including pepperoni from Zoe's."

But last night, without Pustari there to oversee what he admits is a difficult cooking process, Pustari's Apizza tasted like burnt high-school-cafeteria pie.

This early in the season, we'll give Pustari and his crew the benefit of the doubt, and trust that they'll turn things around within a homestand or two. We may not feel quite so chipper about the M's prospects, but appreciate the synergy in serving terrible pizza (so far!) a few yards from a terrible bullpen.
