Breaking down a pig will be the first topic covered in Farmstead Meatsmith's new online video series for aspiring at-home butchers.

As reported on Voracious earlier this year, Vashon Island farmers Brandon and Lauren Sheard appealed to Kickstarter for $10,000 in film funding. Supporters contributed the required amount, allowing the Sheards and producer Andrew Plotsky to make a series of webisodes covering the "more attainable" aspects of butchery. The pork side butchery segment will debut later this month.

But, in the interim, Plotsky's sharing a trailer with Voracious readers. Here, over the dramatic background ooo-ing of a female chorus, Sheard outlines the rationale for the series, entitled On the Anatomy of Thrift.

"Everything happens around the table," Sheard concludes after talking about saying grace and dinner dates. "So, basically, if you understand how to break down a pig, it will be smooth sailing from here on it. It'll be a good life."
