At 10:00 on a Saturday night, I cannot believe I've found parking on Capitol Hill. Let alone, parking directly in front of the Caffe Vita, which is my destination. It has been a long day, and I have things to write. I'm sleepy. There is no way I'll get through writing anything without coffee.

Finding the correct coffee shop for any given moment of a day, or day of a week, is an art form. It requires lining up your mood, your preferred list of baristas, your route of travel, the type of coffee you want, etc. etc. etc., adding them together, and then somehow computing the average. Finding the correct coffee shop for late night coffee excusions is a lot more simple: You find the cafe that is still open, and you go there.

There is, I'm aware, a common belief that coffee is a morning beverage. But frankly, people who believe that coffee is a morning beverage are a lot like people who believe that bacon is a breakfast meat: wrong. Bacon is actually an any time meat. Just like coffee is an any time beverage.

For those who understand and keep frequent company with late-night lattes, or for anyone who has ever tried to find a late-night latte with little success, here are a few suggested cafes in the Seattle area that stay open late. Now you can get last called on your coffee, too.

Caffe Vita at 1005 East Pike Street, is open nightly until 11:00 pm.

Bauhaus Books & Coffee, at 301 East Pine Street, is open nightly until 1:00 am.

In the University District, Trabant Coffee & Chai, at 1309 NE 45th Street, is open to the studious until midnight.

Caffe Ladro's Upper Queen Anne, Lower Queen Anne, and Fremont locations are all open until 11:00 pm nightly.

And finally, Espresso Vivace is your best bet in South Lake Union. Located at 227 Yale Avenue North, it is open until 11:00 pm.
