Brave Horse Customers Want Egg Rolls and Latkes on Their Burgers

Brave Horse Tavern offers its carnivorous customers a choice of cheeses, carmelized onions, a fried egg, bacon and avocado for their burgers, but a recent promotion uncovered a bevy of other ingredients they consider suitable for their sandwiches.

This month, Brave Horse ran its first-ever "Burger of the Week" contest: "Your burger will be featured for a week plus free burgers and beers for your buddies and you can brag a bunch," the restaurant promised its Facebook friends.

According to marketing director Amy Richardson, eaters responded with "all kinds of sketches, drawings, graphs and recipes." Proposed toppings included Gochujang-infused mayo; Schlitz-braised onions; peanut butter with maple syrup; Filipino egg rolls; potato latkes; bulgogi and crushed pineapple.

"The creativity has been really fun to see," Richardson says. "It's has been surprisingly hard to pick the winner since we have a really great turnout."

A few themes emerged in the entries, including Elvis (which may explain the peanut butter.)

"It's like an Elvis convention in Vegas," Richardson says of the outpouring of Presley love. "Another theme that was surprising was Greek. I think people really thought about burgers they had when they were on vacation."

Brave Horse will announce its contest winner today. The restaurant plans to run the contest every three months.
