Bill Radke Treatment Tackles Seattle Food

Categories: Food Media

Silence doesn't great radio make, but the quiet that met KIRO host Bill Radke's question about how to avoid thinking of food as fuel spoke volumes about the guests he'd assembled for a culinary segment set to air this weekend.

Radke this morning interviewed Tom Douglas, Ethan Stowell and me (I think Radke needed someone to represent the non-celebrity chef demographic) about the local food scene. Although we didn't have much to say about the problem of food disinterest, we talked about what makes Seattle's food special; how diners should choose and approach new restaurants; the knotty issue of eating out with children and whether reality television has helped or hurt kitchen culture. Also, in the chef secret portion of the program, Douglas revealed he doesn't like beets and Stowell came out against eggplants.

For more such tidbits - and a few stammered thoughts from me -- tune in. The show airs on 97.3 FM tomorrow at 6 a.m. and 12 noon, and again Sunday at 2 p.m. It will be also be podcast here.
