The Blind Cafe Comes to Seattle in June

The Blind Cafe is making its first ever visit to Seattle on June 8 and 9, according to Seattle Met. The dine-in-dark restaurant, which provides employment to visually-impaired people and educates the public on blindness, has been traveling around the country since 2009. The restaurant will be set up at the Fremont Baptist Church at 717 N. 36th St. Tickets are on a sliding scale from $55 to $95, depending on what you can afford and will get you a meal full of different flavors and textures, plus a Q&A on blindness. You can purchase your tickets here, but hurry -- these events sell out quickly.

Narwhal Opens on Capitol Hill June 1st

The Unicorn's downstairs bar Narwhal is scheduled to open on June 1, according to The Spectator. The 5,000 square foot space will feature arcade games and pinball machines, as well as a stage for live performances. It will also of course, sling Unicorn's carnival- themed food and booze.

Thaiku Pop-Up Restaurant to Open in Copper Gate, I Love New York Deli Closes

Thaiku is opening a pop-up restaurant in Copper Gate.
Good news for fans of Thaiku and its bar Fu Kun Wu. The beloved Ballard establishment, which closed at the end of last year, is setting up a pop-up restaurant at Copper Gate on Thursday, May 31 from 5 p.m. to midnight. The menu will include several of Thaiku's most popular dishes, as well as Fu Kun Wu's signature cocktails. Until Thaiku finds a new space to open permanently, more pop-ups at Copper Gate can be expected.

In other news, Eater Seattle reports that both locations of I Love New York Deli -- in Pike Place Market and University District -- are now closed. The reason remains unknown.

Lava Cake Shop Opens in Ballard, Collections Cafe Debuts at Seattle Center

Hot Cakes Molten Chocolate Cakery is now up and running at 5427 Ballard Ave., according to My Ballard. The dessert shop features take-and-bake molten cakes in mason jars (see right), grilled chocolate sandwiches, and even boozy milkshakes.

In other news, Eater Seattle reports that Collections Cafe is now open at Seattle Center's Dale Chihuly monument.

Wallingford Farmers Market Starts Next Week

The Wallingford Farmers Market season kicks off next Wednesday, May 30, according to Wallyhood.org. Customers can shop from 3:30 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday (except July 4) through September 26. New vendors joining the market this year include Sky Valley Farm and Skagit River Ranch.

Chow Foods to Open Mexican Restaurant, Emerald Downs Slings Pancakes on Saturday

A quick-serve Mexican restaurant called TNT Taqueria at is opening at 2114 N. 45th St. in July, according to Wallyhood.com. The establishment will be run by Chow Foods, which currently operates the 5 Spot and Endolyne Joe's.

In other news, Emerald Downs is slinging pancakes and bacon this Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. While you enjoy breakfast, you can also watch the horses train for the races.

Metropolitan Market to Close in Queen Anne, Schooner Exact to Expand in SoDo

Metropolitan Market at 1908 Queen Anne Ave. N. is closing, according to Queen Anne View. The grocery store will stop running in mid-July, citing the development planned for the area as out of its price range.

In other news, Seattle Met reports that Schooner Exact in SoDo is adding a brewpub to its taproom space. Patrons can expect a simple menu featuring cheese and meat platters, plus sandwiches.

Li'l Woody's to Serve Free Burgers

In honor of National Burger Day, Li'l Woody's on Capitol Hill will serve free burgers (see right) from 2 to 5 p.m. on Monday, May 28. But if you want a side of the neighborhood's finest "crack" to go along with your burger, you'll have to cough up some cash -- which SW's Mike Seely would say is totally worth it.

Benito's Chicago Eatery Debuts in Ballard

Benito's Chicago Eatery is now up and running at 6201 15th Ave. N.W., according to My Ballard. Run by Chicago native Benjamin Kulikowski, the establishment features the "Windy City's" notorious deep-dish pizza, hot dogs, and Italian beef sandwiches. A menu featuring rotating specials and beer is also available.

Mexican Restaurant to Take Over Kiki's, Tango to Debut Rum Bar

Capitol Hill welcomes two new food and drink establishments this summer. First off, Fogon Cuisine of Mexico is moving into the recently shuttered Kiki Tap & Eatery space at 600 E. Pine St., according to Capitol Hill Seattle. Its owners currently run the Mi Tierra restaurants in Monroe and Woodinville, but have been looking to open a restaurant in the city for four years. CHS also reports that the folks behind Tango plan to debut a rum bar at 1112 Pike St. by late summer. Rumba will feature a wide selection of rum cocktails and Cuban/ Caribbean style food.
